To help you set up your Government Gateway account, we’ve put together a step-by-step guide below.
To access the relevant page with the HMRC, press the following link.

Please note - The link above will redirect you to the HMRC online services page.
1. Click the green "Sign in >" button.
2. Click “Create Sign in details” below the green "Sign in" button.
3. Enter your email address where asked, then click “Continue”.
4. You will now be emailed a confirmation code. Please use this code to confirm your email address, then click “Confirm”.
5. Your email address is now confirmed. To continue your set up, please click “Continue”.
6. You will need to input your full name. Please remember to include any middle names. Then press “Continue”.
7. You will be required to create a password. Don't forget to keep your password safe as you'll need this later on to make us your VAT Agent. Once you have created your password, press “Continue”.
Please note - We will never ask you for your password or your Government Gateway User ID.
8. You will now be issued with a user ID for your Government Gateway account. Please remember to note your Gateway user ID, then press “Continue”.
9. Next, you will need to set up your additional security. Please press “Continue”
10. HMRC will ask you how you would like your access code to be issued. We recommend selecting "Text message". You are welcome to choose any of the other two options depending on your preference. Once you have selected your preferred method, please press “Continue”.
11. You will need to confirm whether you are adding in a UK mobile number. Once you have selected the appropriate answer, please press “Continue”.
12. You will need to input your mobile number and press “Send access code”.
13. HMRC will send you an text message containing a 6-digit access code to input into the appropriate box shown below. Once you have entered your access code, please press “Continue”.
14. Once you have completed all the actions above, the following screen will be displayed confirming you've completed the setup for additional security. To access your Government Gateway account, you will need to press “Continue”.
